Google Nano Banana Expands to Search, NotebookLM, and Photos

Sheikhub, India — Google is extending the reach of its AI image-generation tool Nano Banana, bringing it to Google SearchNotebookLM, and soon, Google Photos. The expansion marks another step in integrating artificial intelligence more deeply into Google’s everyday products.

Developed by Google DeepMind and powered by the Gemini 2.5 Flash Image model, Nano Banana first launched in August within the Gemini app. According to Google, users have already created more than five billion images using the tool. The company says the upcoming rollout will make AI-based image editing and creation more accessible to a global audience.

Creating with AI in Google Search

The new integration in Google Search via the Lens app allows users to generate and modify images instantly. By opening Lens and switching to the new “Create” mode, users can edit existing photos or newly captured images using text prompts.

For instance, users can move a person to a new location, change facial expressions, or convert a color image into black and white. Google says this feature is designed to make creative editing faster and more intuitive, without requiring prior design skills.

Enhanced Visual Summaries in NotebookLM

Nano Banana is also being added to NotebookLM, Google’s AI-powered research and note-taking tool. It will improve Video Overviews, a feature that summarizes complex information using visuals like images, charts, and diagrams.

With this update, Video Overviews will incorporate six new visual styles, including watercolor and retro designs. Nano Banana will also generate contextual illustrations that match the user’s content and support a new format called “Brief”, designed for quick, visually-led summaries.

Coming Soon to Google Photos

Google confirmed that Nano Banana will also be integrated into Google Photos in the coming weeks. The company has not yet revealed specific features but indicated that the tool will bring creative image-editing capabilities to the widely used photo management service.

A Broader Push for Everyday AI

Google’s move reflects a larger trend across the tech industry to embed generative AI tools in mainstream platforms. By integrating Nano Banana into its key services, Google aims to make AI creativity available at scale—whether users are refining images, summarizing content, or exploring new artistic expressions.
